A safe working environment
To ensure a safe working environment for you and all our volunteers when volunteering with us, your supervisor will:
- Describe the site and project, including how your efforts contribute to conservation of natural and cultural heritage and any impact on cultural heritage values or threatened or endangered species.
- Outline potential hazards and emergency procedures and provide emergency contacts
- Explain your tasks and activities
- Outline any activities which volunteers may not engage in, including use of firearms and tree-felling.
- Detail accident reporting procedures
Your responsibilities as a volunteer
We need your help to ensure a safe working environment for all when volunteering. You can help by following these simple steps:
- Undertake all tasks in a responsible, dependable, conscientious and courteous manner.
- Follow the instructions of your volunteer supervisor and seek clarification if you're unclear on anything
- Participate in induction and training programs
- Comply with relevant conservation requirements and legislation
- Support a non-discriminatory and harassment-free environment
- Don't disclose any confidential or sensitive information
- Don't be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Report any safety incidents or hazards immediately
- Advise your volunteer supervisor of any pre-existing medical conditions or other concerns
- In case of an emergency or life-threatening injury, call Triple Zero (000) for fire, police or ambulance services.
